Two Global Design Teams open for Fall 2014 – Apply Today

1. COUNTERFEIT DRUG ANALYSIS

Global Design Team
Fall 2014
Moshi, Tanzania in partnership with the St. Luke’s Foundation /Kilimanjaro School of Pharmacy (SLF/KSP)

See Attached Flyer

The team will assemble operational High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) units to be used for counterfeit drug detection in Tanzania, Africa. They will develop a universal counterfeit detection method and install units at the Kilimanjaro School of Pharmacy.  Further they will develop installation and repair videos to train scientists in Tanzania to repair the instruments.

The team is looking for the following expertise:

  • Ability to prepare reagents

  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

  • Analytical Chemistry

  • Laboratory Technology

  • Instrument Operation

  • Instrument Repair

2. POTABLE WATER ACCESS

Global Design Team
Fall 2014
Tamenglong, India

Manipur is one of the “seven sisters” states located in northeastern India. Tamenglong is one of the nine districts in Manipur state, and is also the name of the district headquarters (capitol) of the state. Approximately 40% of the population has reasonable access to a tap stand for potable water which was provided by the government. The remainder of the population is too far from the tap stand, so they rely on harvesting of monsoon rains in surface reservoirs to fulfill their water needs for eight months of the year. In the remaining months, these reservoirs run dry, so households must to walk 2-3 hours to collect water.

The first phase of this project will be for students to work with the partner to prepare a project proposal to address the challenge of providing potable water to Tamenglong:

  • Identify necessary information, data sets, questions to ask, etc.

  • Outline design options with associated cost estimates

  • Identify and establish contact with local stakeholders

  • Compile professional proposal for potential funders

  • Identify and contact potential funding opportunities and organizations

  • Recruit necessary expertise to project (students and faculty)
