Joan M. Greve

Scientific Program Manager, Division of Interdisciplinary Training (DIDT) at National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB)

Joan M. GreveDr. Greve joined the NIBIB Division of Interdisciplinary Training as a Scientific Program Manager in 2020. Joan supports NIBIB’s extramural portfolio on training, workforce development, and diversity. Trained as a bioengineer and imaging scientist, Joan has witnessed, in a variety of workplace settings, the ability of biomedical imaging and bioengineering training to improve people’s lives. She is excited about serving the training needs of NIBIB, drawing upon her breadth of experiences.

Joan earned a B.S. degree in engineering (bioengineering) from the University of Washington, worked within the biomedical imaging group at Genentech, Inc., and then earned her Ph.D. in bioengineering from Stanford. Returning to Genentech, Joan led its preclinical MRI lab and helped to translate an antibody to treat Alzheimer’s disease. In 2014, Joan joined the faculty of University of Michigan’s Biomedical Engineering department where she led its 7T preclinical MRI lab, while her research team pursued precision approaches in preclinical studies. She has worked with or published using MRI, CT, ultrasound, PET, and optical methods, as well as numerous rodent models of human disease. Joan has been a voting member of three Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees.
