Leopold N. Green received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Hampton University, Virginia, in 2011, and his PhD in bioengineering from the University of California, Riverside, in 2016. He is the recipient of the California AGEP Postdoctoral Fellowship at Caltech, currently studying biology and biological engineering. In his postdoc duties, he is the project lead for multiple, concurrent projects and has developed a computation model to predict population dynamics within a synthetic microbial consortium. He has industry experience as a technical consultant for Holoclara, an R&D project manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific-One Lambda, and as an R&D process chemistry intern at Merck & Co. He was an adjunct professor of elementary chemistry at Long Beach City College and has been a mentor, guest lecturer and science lecturer. Since 2018, he has been a recruitment liaison for the Center for Diversity at Caltech, and has been a member of Black Scientists and Engineers and a graduate advisor for the National Society of Black Engineers. His goal is to develop scientific researchers and innovators by fostering new outlooks and identifying creative solutions to medical and ecological concerns. As a professor, he hopes to build on students’ diverse perspectives, focusing mainly on supporting students from underrepresented communities.
