Elihu Deneke earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and his master’s degree in engineering, both at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU, Texas). He is currently a doctoral fellow pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering at Purdue, where since 2017 he has been a member of the Gore Research Group. In December 2020, he became a year-round graduate intern at Sandia National Laboratory. Through the PVAMU Employment Program, he worked at NASA for three years with a focus on swarm robotics and the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle’s Flight Software development. As a teaching assistant, he facilitated a machine design laboratory where students were introduced to the product design process. Memberships have included the National Society of Black Engineers (public relations officer) and the Student Enrichment Program (tutor facilitator). He is set to mentor two minority undergraduate students from historically black universities to expose them to high-impact research and equip them with artificial intelligence technical experience they can take to graduate school or a career in industry. His research goals include leveraging combined information gained from physics and data to make strides in clean reliable energy, improving combustion processes, and developing reliable data-driven techniques. As a faculty member, he plans to establish an open environment that is accepting of differences and encouraging of diverse thoughts to help develop well-rounded empathetic individuals.
