Research Programs for Undergraduates
On the Purdue campus each summer, 150 SURF undergraduates conduct research for 11-weeks under the guidance of a professor and graduate student. Additionally, students have opportunity to apply for the summer program at NIST. For this program, Purdue will submit the university proposal along with the undergraduate applications through the government grant proposal process. Learn more about these programs by clicking on the titles below.
The application form is available at this website: Form.
There are many other research opportunities for undergraduates during the summer. Some of these are listed on the Resource webpage.
The application review process will begin February 20; however, applications will continue to be accepted through March 9, 11:59 PM EST.
Engage in research this summer on Purdue's West Lafayette, Indiana campus. SURF matches undergraduates with a faculty member and graduate student mentor who introduce them to the research tools used on the cutting edges of science, engineering, and technology. (Open to Purdue students and undergraduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.)
For Purdue students interested in conducting research at the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), Purdue will submit a university proposal to recommend eligible students for the NIST Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. Research opportunities exist at NIST laboratories at Gaithersburg, Maryland and Boulder, Colorado. SURF NIST website
