Two-Dimensional Halide Perovskites Plasmonics and Quantum Nanophotonics

Project Description
While nanophotonics has taught us unprecedented ways to control the flow of light and to redefine centuries-old optics, the development of new materials has become a centerpiece in this field that paves the way to novel devices across the fields of sensing, spectroscopy, communication, energy, and quantum optics. Here, we will combine a new type of atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite semiconductor materials with a novel plasmonic metasurfaces to demonstrate high performance plasmonic and quantum nanophotonic structures. In this collaborative effort, we will explore new chemistries to synthesize stable 2D perovskite materials with high photoluminescence quantum efficiency and tunable emission energy. We will then use plasmonic metasurfaces as a new platform to manipulate the light-matter interactions in this exciting new type of 2D materials, and explore both linear and nonlinear optics of the hybrid materials as well as the possibilities of achieving high performance plasmonic perovskite nanolasers and single photon emitters. Any proposals and new ideas associated with this concept from the candidates are also welcomed.

Postdoc Qualifications
PhD in materials science, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics or related fields. Hand-on experience with 2D materials synthesis, optical characterizations, and photonics device fabrications.
