Gordon Skiles is the Computer Support Specialist for Engineering Education, Women in Engineering, and MEP. He graduated from Purdue University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. After graduation, Gordon worked with the chemical engineering department at Purdue. There, he worked on hardware designs and did some repair work in research laboratories. In 1988, Gordon moved to the Materials Engineering department where he was the Director of Laboratory. Gradually, in the same department, Gordon's title and responsibilities migrated to Computer Support Specialist. He has since then moved from the Materials Engineering Department to the Engineering Administration Building to assist the Engineering Education Department. Typically Gordon's mornings begin by checking e-mail and then the queue. As the Computer Support Specialist, Gordon has the responsibilities of maintaining all of the computer systems, whether it's a Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX machine, in the Engineering Education, WIE, or MEP departments. He is also the man to look for whenever students, faculty, or staff need a new account set up or if there's any problem with their account that needs immediate attention. Gordon does everything from putting computers together and installing necessary software, to making sure that the machine is on the network. When not at work, Gordon enjoys hanging out with his family and friends, playing billiards, and planting all sorts of trees.
