John W. Sutherland
Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Head of the Division of Environmental and Ecological Engineering
John W. Sutherland received his bachelors and masters degrees in industrial engineering and his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to coming to Purdue, Dr. Sutherland was the Richard and Elizabeth Henes Chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Engineering Mechanics at Michigan Technological University. In 2004, Sutherland was named Director of the Sustainable Futures Institute, a Michigan Tech-wide activity involving research, education, and outreach efforts related to sustainability. As a faculty member at Michigan Tech, his teaching and research efforts focused on manufacturing, quality improvement, and environmental responsible design and manufacturing.
