David F. Radcliffe

Epistemology Professor of Engineering Education

Dr. David Radcliffe received B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Queensland, and a Ph.D. in bioengineering from Strathclyde University in Scotland.

Dr. Radcliffe has worked at various universities, including the University of Queensland, and with industry in Australia and the United States. His teaching and research interests span design, sustainable systems, engineering education and professional development, and knowledge management.

Dr. Radcliffe founded the Catalyst Research Centre for Society and Technology, with the objective of creating innovative, sustainable solutions to complex social and technological challenges facing industry and the community through the fusion of social science and engineering perspectives. He spent eight years coordinating the Thiess-UQ Strategic Learning Partnership, which involved him splitting his time equally between industry and university.

Dr. Radcliffe was named the Inaugural National Teaching Fellow of 1995 in Australia and the first Australian Boeing Welliver Fellow. He was PI on the Australasian Virtual Engineering Library project and he has led the development of the Sustainability Knowledge Network initiative. He is also PI for the Advanced Engineering Capability Network, funded by the Collaboration and Structural Reform Fund, and a co-PI on the Carrick Priority project, Next Generation Learning Spaces.
