Lia Stanciu
Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering
In 1995, Dr. Lia Stanciu graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from University of Bucharest and one year later she received a M.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the same University. After working for a few years in Materials Chemistry at the Romanian Academy of Science, she entered graduate school at the University of California, Davis and received her Ph.D. degree in Materials Engineering in 2003. From January to August 2004, Dr. Stanciu held a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Davis. Before Coming to Purdue, she held another postdoctoral position at the National Center of Macromolecular Imaging at Baylor University.
Dr. Stanciu's research interests are focused on understanding fundamental issues of materials processing, and the importance of electron microscopy for acquiring structural and chemical information on various materials. The main goal of Dr. Stanciu's research is to construct novel nanomaterials with the help of biomolecules. Transmission Electron Microscopy plays a major role in understanding the structural properties of both macromolecular assemblies and inorganic nanomaterials.
