Thomas P. Seager

Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering

Dr. Thomas P. Seager joins Purdue University as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering in the construction and environmental groups. His interests include industrial ecology, sustainability, systems analysis, energy analysis, and environmental manufacturing management. He graduated from Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York, with his bachelors, masters and doctorial degrees in civil and environmental engineering. Before earning his PhD in 2001, Dr. Seager taught in Civil Engineering and Construction Technology at Hudson Valley Community College located in Troy, New York, and in Civil Engineering at Union College located in Schenectady, New York. Afterwards, he worked as a research engineer and Research Assistant Professor in the Environmental Research Group at the University of New Hampshire, where he studied beneficial reuse of contaminated sediments (e.g., in cement manufacture) and other waste materials. Dr. Seager currently conducts research related thermodynamic analysis of industrial ecosystems and multi-criteria decision analysis as a tool for analytic-deliberative environmental decision-making in management of oil spills, contaminated soils and sediments, brominated flame retardants, and water resources management. Dr. Seager teaches courses in life-cycle assessment of construction materials and systems analysis for Civil Engineering. At Purdue, Dr. Seager is active in the newly-founded Discovery Park Center for the Environment, where he is currently leading the Sustainable Futures launch team. The mission of the team is to create a research agenda that fosters sustainability through economic and environmental progress.
