Santiago Pujol
Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering
Dr. Santiago Pujol joins Purdue University as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering in the structures group. His research interests include earthquake engineering, seismic vulnerability of existing structures, performance-based methodologies, instrumentation and testing of structures, response of structures to impulsive loads, structural-health monitoring, and repair and strengthening of structures.
He graduated from the National University of Colombia with a bachelors degree in civil engineering and completed both his masters and doctorial programs at Purdue University in civil engineering. After his Ph.D. in 2002, he served as an engineer for a nationwide consulting company, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. in California. He has participated in the seismic evaluation of reinforced concrete buildings in Azerbaijan, California, the Dominican Republic and Turkey. He provided technical support for a litigation process involving estimation of the extent of damage attributable in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake in buildings owned by the County of Los Angeles. While at WJE, Dr. Pujol also participated in the review of the seismic design of a major airport and the retrofit of a 13-story building in downtown San Francisco. The latter included the use of unbonded braces.
