John E. Blendell

Professor of Materials Engineering

Dr. John E. Blendell was a Materials Research Engineer (R & D Leader) in the Ceramic Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from 1983 to August 2005. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 1980 to 1983 at MIT and from 1970 to 1980 at the Max Plank Institut fur Metallforschung, Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Blendell earned undergraduate dual degrees in 1974 from Alfred University in Ceramic Science and Mathematics. He then attended MIT where he received an MS in Ceramics in 1976 and a Sc.D., also in Ceramics, in 1979.

His major research interests are in the design of microstructure for optimal properties, grain growth in partially faceted systems, processing of Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic (LTCC) substrates and ferroelectric thin film.
