Dr. Mireille Boutin
Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Mireille (Mimi) Boutin joins the school of Electrical and Computer Engineering as an Assistant Professor in August 2004. Her research in general is in the area of computer vision and image processing, in the context of large databases of geometric objects or medical images. Her work is based on solid mathematical foundations in the area of digital geometry. Dr. Boutin received her degrees from the Universite de Montreal, Canada (B.Sc. in Physics-Mathematics in 1996) and the University of Minnesota (Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2001). Following receipt of her doctorate, she has held positions with the Division of Applied Mathematics/Engineering at Brown University, Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (Leipzig), and the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University.
She was a teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota, where she received a "Citation for Excellence in Teaching" and the Best Thesis Award from the Department of Mathematics. She is the author or co-author of at least 5 journal articles, 1 book chapter, and a conference paper; and she has given at least 16 technical presentations. She has been a journal referee for Acta Applicandae Mathematicae and Machine Vision and Applications. She is the co-founder and organizer of the Rose Whelan Society, an association of women graduate students and postdoctorates in mathematics at Brown University.
