Kate Kustermann Rivera

Chief of Staff to Technology Chief Talent Officer, Deloitte Consulting LLP


Kate Kustermann Rivera is a proud Boilermaker with over twenty-four years of consulting, management, and engineering experience in the U.S. and Europe. She is currently the Chief of Staff to the Chief Talent Officer of Deloitte Consulting's Technology practice. She and her family repatriated to Chicago in 2012 after four years in Paris, where she most recently served as Chief of Staff for Deloitte's Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) Public Sector Consulting practice.

With Deloitte Consulting for over twelve years, she began in the Chicago office as a Senior Manager in Technology Integration, where she helped Public Sector clients redesign their business processes and implement complex technology systems. She then led strategic initiatives in eminence, brand/reputation, and consulting positioning for the U.S. Chief Strategy Officer. Ms. Rivera joined the Paris office in 2008, initially conducting Quality/Risk reviews of European Member Firms and then driving strategy to grow the regional EMEA Public Sector practice.

Prior to Deloitte, she served as Deputy Chief Information Officer at the City of Chicago where she reengineered the City's one-billion dollar procurement process and successfully implemented the city-wide Oracle ERP financials and purchasing system. She previously worked for Motorola as Manager of Strategic Marketing, where she developed new branding and channel strategies for land mobile products. Prior to that, she was a Senior Associate at CSC Index (management consulting firm) specializing in redesigning operations and implementing culture change in large utility and petrochemical clients. Ms. Rivera began her career as a Product Development Engineer for Procter & Gamble on the Crest and Metamucil health care products.

Ms. Rivera earned her M.B.A. at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 1994. In 1990, she graduated magna cum laude with a B. S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue, where she was awarded the 'Outstanding Senior in the Schools of Engineering' and delivered the engineering commencement speech. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and was honored as an 'Ellen Gabriel Fellow' in 2005 for her leadership at Deloitte.
