Through a generous gift from Kiewit, one of North America’s largest and most respected construction and engineering organizations, the Purdue College of Engineering and Purdue Polytechnic Institute will offer the Kiewit Scholars Program at Purdue. Selected students will be provided with exceptional leadership and career development experiences and opportunities as they become leading professionals in their future jobs and communities.

The Kiewit Scholars Program at Purdue invests in students with exceptional leadership potential who are poised to solve problems of global significance in the design and construction industry. Through a multi-year, cohort-based program, students will gain the skills and knowledge they need to become world-class engineers, constructors and leaders. Students selected for this program will experience exclusive courses focused on leadership development, special group activities, unique travel opportunities, exposure to industry, and mentorship from professional industry leaders.

Scholarships awards are up to $10,000 for in-state students and up to $16,000 for out-of-state students. Scholarships may be renewed based on student classification and continuing to meet program qualifications including participation in Kiewit Scholars programming throughout the academic year. In addition, Kiewit Scholars will participate in programming, events, and activities meant to enhance personal and professional growth. Participation in some activities will be required as part of the Kiewit Scholars program.

Eligible students are rising sophomores, juniors and seniors that demonstrate academic merit, leadership and civic engagement while pursuing the baccalaureate degrees in the following majors related to construction and design.

“At Kiewit, this is one more example of the steps we’re taking to help ensure we have outstanding talent today and into the future,” said Jim Rowings, vice president of Technical Development at Kiewit. “To us, the opportunity to partner with an exceptional University is transformative for our future recruiting success.”

Mung Chiang, Purdue’s executive vice president for strategic initiatives and the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering, says this program’s goals mirror those of the College. “As we scale the Pinnacle of Excellence, we must engage with industry in all areas, including workforce development. The Kiewit Scholars program will provide the needed support for students who will be prepared to lead in a rapidly changing world.”

Carrie Berger, interim dean of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, agrees. “Kiewit’s dedication to creating and empowering leaders in construction-focused engineering is a perfect fit for our hands-on, real-world bachelor’s degree programs in construction management technology and engineering technology. The Kiewit Scholars program creates a unique opportunity to help launch the successful careers of Purdue students, and I look forward to the future we build together.”
