New Engineering website invites young women to 'design life'

The College of Engineering yesterday (Aug. 13) launched a colorful new website that encourages young women to explore the world of possibilities that a Purdue engineering education can give them.

The new site, which invites visitors to "design life. engineer," features photographs and stories of women who are, or have, studied engineering at Purdue.

Beth Holloway, director of the Women in Engineering Program and Student Success, says the site features great role models: "These role models show that engineers are more than just a stereotype. They show that engineering is an exciting and dynamic profession that makes a difference in people's lives — in big and small ways, and in what we do in everyday life. Our hope is to inspire young women who visit the site to think, 'That's who I want to be like when I grow up!'"

Links at the site talk informally about what engineers do, how to become an engineer, and how to apply to Purdue, among other key topics. Visitors also can click the "Ask us anything," link when they have specific questions.

The site was produced by Purdue's Office of Marketing and Media.
