Beth Holloway, director of the Women in Engineering Program (WIEP) and Student Success for the College of Engineering, recently received the Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion award from the Purdue chapter of Mortar Board.

The award is given annually to a faculty or staff member who has "matched the goals of Dean Schleman." Schleman, who retired as Purdue dean of students in 1968, had also served as a captain in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves during World War II. Throughout her 34-year career at Purdue, she championed causes and programs that advanced women's education and equality.

In her role as director of WIEP since 2001, Holloway has developed and administered research-based activities and programs to recruit and retain women in engineering with outreach touching kindergarteners through graduate students. She was named director of Student Success early this year. In her new role she leads student-retention and scholarship initiatives.
