The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding research contributions in any field associated with the use of computers in engineering. To ensure that the award's continued prestige, and that it is given only to fully qualified recipients, it is not necessarily awarded every year.

In notifying Ramani of the award, CIE Division chair Ashok Kumar said: "Our executive committee reviewed a strong pool of applicants and decided that you satisfied all criteria for the award to the highest degree, and you have been recognized by your peers for your demonstrated ability for making significant contributions to the discipline of computers and information in engineering.

"Your department and institution must be as proud as the CIE Division is to have you contributing to their and our mission respectively! We are grateful to have people such as you play a role that exemplifies excellence in ASME and look forward to your continued contributions."

The award comes with a plaque and $1,000 honorarium that will be presented during the IDETC/CIE 2014 Conference in Buffalo, NY, Aug. 17-20.
