Purdue University’s graduate programs in engineering consistently rank among the best in the country, and our programs are getting stronger. According to the U.S. News & World Report publication, “America’s Best Graduate Schools 2005,” Purdue graduate engineering programs are ranked 8th overall among schools nationwide. That’s a climb from a ranking of 9th in 2003 and 13th in 2001. Six graduate programs are ranked in the top 10 nationally. Rankings are based on expert opinion from academic peers and business leaders about program quality as well as statistical indicators that measure the quality of faculty, research, and students.

Purdue Engineering undergraduate programs consistently rank high among their national peers. In the U.S. News & World Report survey “America’s Best Colleges 2005,” released in August 2004, Purdue’s Schools of Engineering tied with Carnegie Mellon University for 8th nationally among doctoral-granting universities—up one place from last year. Undergraduate program rankings are based on ratings by deans and senior faculty in those disciplines at peer institutions.

In a separate survey, employers consistently rate Purdue engineering among the top 10 programs nationwide. Industry officials consider Purdue engineering alumni among the best prepared and most productive engineers entering the workforce.

Purdue’s engineering program is among the largest in the United States. It encompasses 13 schools, departments, and divisions, with approximately 6,300 undergraduate students, 2,250 graduate students, and 270 faculty members.
