The North American Manufacturing Research Institution (NAMRI) has awarded Chunghorng Richard Liu its S.M. Wu Research Implementation Award for 2011.

Liu, professor of industrial engineering and associate head of the School of Industrial Engineering, will receive the award June 15 during the 39th Annual Society of Manufacturing Engineers North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.

In notifying Liu of the award, NAMRI President Stephen R. Hayashi said it is given to individuals or teams who present "outstanding original research at NAMRC, which subsequently, upon implementation, had a significant commercial and/or societal impact." Hayashi continued: "Your contributions to the areas of machine tool error, hard turning and surface integrity have had lasting impact in the academic and commercial fields."
