Working with energetic materials requires highly specialized training not offered at many educational institutions. Therefore, finding quality workforce candidates can be a challenge. That’s why the Purdue Energetics Research Center organized its first ever talent showcase in May 2024. More than 50 students and postdocs from nine different universities attended, as well defense professionals from across the country. Phillip J. Cole, department head of energetics manufacturing at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head division said, “An event like this provides a critical linkage between employers to prospective new team members that are well positioned to make an immediate contribution.” Read more about the Energetic Materials Talent Showcase...

Purdue Researchers Developing Solid Fuel for Rotating Detonation Engines

A rotating detonation engine in action

Rotating detonation engines (RDEs) have the potential to revolutionize propulsion, but are notoriously unstable. What if you could power them with a solid propellant? That’s what Purdue University researchers Steve Son and Terry Meyer are investigating, thanks to a grant from the Air Force Research Lab. Watch the video of the challenges of converting solid propellants to RDE rocket fuel...

Onward & Upward: Anduril Purchases Purdue Startup
