Welcome Tom Heck!
Tom comes to us with over 25 years working in the field of education and leadership development. He started his career as a a Technology Education teacher and then moved into the non-profit sector where his work focused on leadership development among K-12 students. Tom then moved on to launch an international association serving thousands of educators in 35 countries. Tom has worked as a consultant with some of the largest training organizations in the world including Franklin Covey and the Center for Creative Leadership.
His passion for youth development, community service, and the Maker Movement led him to EPICS. Tom has, for several years, been volunteering at schools in North and South Carolina to bring hands-on learning projects into the classrooms that emphasize engineering skills. One recent project that received national attention involved high school students creating Assistive Technology solutions for elementary students with physical and cognitive disabilities. Tom is very active in the Maker movement and has presented at many regional Maker Faires and has most recently been invited to present at the World Maker Faire in New York City.
Tom comes highly recommended within the academic and corporate sectors. He brings energy and experience to our program. Two of his references said basically the same thing during the search process, “if you asked me if I knew someone who could take an idea like EPICS and grow it into a national program, it would be Tom Heck”. Our vision is to have a national impact on engineering education and Tom will lead the charge in the pre-college arena.
We are thrilled to have him on board!
