1. New Business

-       Updating contact information on signs

o   Requested to P. Qualio that B098 sign be updated with current contact information

-       Recertification audit

o   Received official notification from REM of final certification

2. Review of College of Engineering Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

-       No December meeting to date.

3. Review of Open Safety Items List

-       Update of WANG BEP

o   Discussed the original development of the emergency plan and the reason that specific locations were not called out in the plan.  Suggested having a member of the PUPD walk the building and make recommendations for a shelter in place situation.  Will discuss possibility with Dr. Radcliffe.

-       Stairway signs – have reached out to P. Qualio about preference for “NO ENTRY” signs under all stairways in ARMS basement.

-       Safety Slide for ENGR131/132 – Rick developed two safety slides which address aisle clearance, hallway etiquette and the off-limits area under the stairs.  These have been added to the ENGR131/132 first day slide deck and put on the TV monitors.

4. Review of Open Near Miss Items

-       The WANG BEP is being reviewed (see above).

-       The unauthorized student access to the area under the stairs is being addressed through communication on the CCTV and FYE slides, as well as new signs.

5. New Open Near Miss Items

-       A student brought a large monitor to the ENGR131 exam in B061.  The intent was to be able to see his work better during the exam.  A safety analysis was performed, and the situation was discussed with the teaching team.  Since the monitor was stable and the student sat on the end of the second row and assumed all liability, the consensus was to allow the monitor.  However, in the future, there will be communication that no external monitors will be allowed in B061 or B098.  Because of the risk of instability and the possible blocking during an emergency exit, it is safer to not permit the use of external monitors.

Next Meeting: Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:00 AM in ARMS B098
