ENE Memo: December 2, 2013

From the Head: 12/2

Presentation Week in FYE

All this week groups of first-year engineering students will be presenting their fall project work. Some of these projects are for external clients including Cummins, the Miller Child Development Lab School and Battleground Middle School. In one instance the students have developed new concepts to increase gas mileage in large fleet trucks; in another they have created educational toys or activities to teach young children and in the third they have been working on new musical instruments. These presentations are always a high energy event – lots of passion, original thinking and most importantly future engineers displaying professional habits of mind.

On somber note, this Friday, December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. It marks the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, the day 1989 when a crazy man killed 14 people and wounded another 14 at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal to “fight feminism”.

We must all stand firm against intolerance and violence against any person or group.
