Engineering Education in China - Reform and Research

Jian Lin, Professor, Institute of Education; Vice Director, Center for Engineering Education, Tsinghua University

Abstract:

This presentation will consist of three parts: the current situation and status of China’s engineering education, engineering education reform in China, and engineering education research in China. The first part will give a brief outline of China’s engineering education system. Much of the rest of the presentation will focus on the second part, including through introduction and discussion of “The Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers (PETOE).” This major government-conducted educational reform is one of two major projects proposed in China’s The National Plan for Medium and Long-Term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020). The third part of the talk will list and review recent research projects on engineering education financially supported by China’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
