Submitting an Application: TOEFL

If you are an international applicant and have not already taken the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam, schedule a time to take it. Click here for a summary of minimum scores required. Purdue University's code for reporting your TOEFL score is 1631.

The School of Engineering Education requires the following minimum scores before we will route your application for faculty review:

  • Paper-based test (PBT) score >= 550
  • Internet-based test (IBT) overall score >=77
    • Writing >=18
    • Speaking >=18
    • Listening >=14
    • Reading >=19
  • As an alternative, an IELTS score of >= 6.5 will be accepted.

Note: The scores must be documented by an official report from Educational Testing Service or IELTS and must be no more than 24 months old at the time the application credentials are reviewed in the Graduate School.
