Watershed Engineering and Management

Watershed Engineering Management includes expertise in monitoring, managing, and modeling human impacts on the natural environment, including resources such as water, air, and land. There is a continuing global and national need for this area of expertise. In the United States, for example, no portion of the accessible Great Lakes shoreline is classified as being "good quality," and there are over 1200 Hazardous Waste sites on the National Priorities List. Moreover, there is growing concern over the impacts of pollutants on human health. Faculty members currently have expertise in the areas of water quality and quantity. Specifically, there are strengths related to groundwater and soil remediation, and environmental chemistry. In addition, we have strengths in pore scale understanding of fluid behavior, contaminant transport, and hydraulic modeling of river systems.  EEE faculty research in this area includes topics such as Watershed Planning and Management in the Great Lakes region, Agricultural Conservation techniques, and computing and monitoring systems for water quantity and quality data.
