Lifecycle Analysis of a Wabash National Semi-trailer

Wabash National Corporation is the largest truck trailer manufacturer in North America. Its Lafayette operations have been ISO 14001 registered since 2005. The ISO 14000 family of standards provides practical tools for any company to create an effective environmental management system. The newly revised ISO 14001:2015 standard now includes a life cycle component.

In order to fully meet the new ISO 14001:2015 standard, an overall life cycle analysis is needed which includes the acquisition of raw materials, design, production, transportation/delivery, use, end-of-life treatment, and final disposal.  In particular, the senior design team will be identifying the material flows that have the greatest impact on energy consumption and water resources.

Senior Design Team update:

Our team is working with Wabash National in Lafayette Indiana to create a life cycle analysis of one of their standard truck trailers. Wabash National needs this life cycle analysis (LCA) in order to comply with the updated ISO 14001 certification. This LCA will show how much water and energy goes into the production of one trailer as well as environmental impacts the production has, like greenhouse gas emissions and smog creation. Wabash National will be able to use this LCA to make decisions about limiting their environmental impact in the future.
