Identification of Waste Streams at Cook Research Incorporated to Decrease Overall Waste

Cook Research Incorporated (CRI) is a Cook Medical company located in West Lafayette, IN which facilitates the design, testing, and regulatory approval of medical devices. CRI has several research and testing laboratories, cafeteria, shipping department, and office spaces, all of which produce their own waste streams.
The goal for students is to decrease the overall landfill waste and identify areas where recycling or reuse could be more effective. Additionally, there are five other Cook companies in West Lafayette who could incorporate waste stream changes, making the overall impact much larger than a single company.
UPDATE
Cook Research Incorporated (CRI) would like to adopt a more cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly method of waste management. Two of their primary waste streams are cardboard from the shipping process and metals from tested medical devices. For both challenges, CRI is looking to manage their waste streams in a way that is environmentally responsible and economically feasible. The objective of this project is to research potential solutions and provide a recommendation to CRI.
