EEE Research Seminar- September 24
The speaker for the EEE Research Seminar on Tuesday, September 24 is Taymee Brandon, EEE PhD Candidate.
This section is prepared for the newsletter by Ms. Margaret Whelton, PE. She is the EEE Manager of Industrial Experience. The responsibilities of this position include working with industry to secure internships, co-ops, and full-time job opportunities for students; developing real world senior design and research projects; and facilitating partnerships between industry and Environmental and Ecological Engineering. She has twelve years of experience as a practicing environmental engineer prior to becoming part of EEE. She is a registered professional engineer in Indiana, Virginia, and Alabama.
What a busy couple of weeks with IR! There are still more career fairs happening in the fall that you should attend. First is the CE Career Fair.
Civil Engineering Career Fair (Oct 10th in person) will be held at the CoRec from 9am to 3pm. The CE Career Fair already has their information sessions penciled in the night of October 9th in Hampton Hall. Information will be updated here for the fair. This fair will mainly feature consulting firms and there will be many EEE alums present.
The Ag Fair is also on October 1st at the CoRec from 10:00am-3:00pm. See who is attending here. Please note the Ag Fair is currently NOT on the career fair plus app. I have sent out to seniors several fulltime EHS Environmental Health and Safety) offers. Anyone who makes something has an environmental need. I would think they have environmental internship opportunities also.
I know your time is limited, so I always recommend attending IR and the Civil Career Fair in the fall. Go to the Ag Fair if you have time or you have a specific interest in working for ag companies.
The CCO has resources that can help you in the job search. They can review your resume, give a mock interview, and offer workshops to aid you in the process of looking for employment. They also have information sessions listed that are scheduled through CCO. Check here for all CCO related events on campus: https://www.cco.purdue.edu/Calendar. I see that NiSource is having a virtual info session on 9/24 at 6pm, Northrup Grumman is on 10/1, and go to the Indiana Statehouse Internship reception on 9/25 at 5:30pm to learn more about internships within the Indiana political parties. The Peace Corps Prep Certificate has an info session on September 18th. Keep checking the CCO calendar for these and other events as it is continually updated.
Did you know you can even practice your interview skills at the CCO? You can schedule a mock interview through them. This is a great way to practice your sales pitch! You can schedule a mock interview Monday to Friday during normal business hours here under “Undergraduates-Quick Chat-Peer Mock Interview”: https://www.cco.purdue.edu/Students/WhatWeOffer You can also do an interview via Big Interview virtually here.

Introduction to Graduate Writing Workshop for First- and Second-Year Graduate Students
The expectations for writing in graduate school are much higher than for writing as an undergraduate. As a graduate writer, you may undertake the writing of articles for publication, grants, conference presentations, a thesis or dissertation, etc. The Introduction to Graduate Writing Workshop offered by the Purdue OWL is meant to introduce graduate students in their first or second year to various aspects of scholarly writing so that they can become successful writers in their field of study.
The workshop is a four-part event, and participants are expected to attend all four sessions. The four parts of the workshop focus on Getting Started, Drafting, Revising/Editing, and Project Planning.
Fall 2024:
Day/Time: Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00-10:30 am ET
Dates: October 1, 3, 15, & 17
Format: Virtual (Zoom)
Anyone interested in attending this four-part event should apply between September 18-26, 2024. Complete the application survey here. For more information, see the introductory material in the application survey or email writing.lab@purdue.edu and include INTRO GRAD in the subject line.
