Administrative Operations Declares Energy Conservation Action Day for Monday (June 17)

Due to the upcoming extreme temperatures and humidity forecasted, Administrative Operations (AO) is declaring an Energy Conservation Action Day on Monday (June 17).

AO strongly encourages the campus community to immediately take the steps outlined below to reduce energy consumption in order to ensure our campus utilities are running smoothly and indoor spaces remain comfortable.

  1. If possible, consider re-scheduling research activities for cooler parts of the day or different days of the week.
  2. Close fume hood sashes completely when not in use to reduce the amount of conditioned air that's exhausted.
  3. If you are able to adjust the thermostat in your space, increase it by a few degrees to reduce air conditioning demand.
  4. Close windows, blinds and doors to prevent heat from entering.
  5. Turn off lights when rooms are unoccupied to reduce electricity use and eliminate the heat given off by the lights.
  6. Turn off and unplug any unused equipment/devices to reduce electricity use.
  7. Eliminate or reduce indoor heat sources including autoclaves, lasers and ovens, especially during the hottest hours of the day.

Your help and cooperation in these efforts are appreciated.
