Hello MSE Department,
Per Dave's discussion on this problem during the faculty meeting, I am sending out a how-to guide for Purdue's stricter rules for printing under its brand guidelines. I know, I'm not happy about it either. But until they relax on it, hopefully, this will help with getting items printed in the meantime.

First off, if you are unsure if something fits the guidelines or not: send it to me.

In the zip folder, I have sent along the following items:

Folder

  *   All acceptable versions of the logo
  *   Purdue's PDF about colors, logos, fonts, and other items
  *   Two PowerPoints with the MSE branding on it
     *
One with all the preferred fonts if you have them installed
     *
One with alternative fonts changed on it.
  *
A swatch of the Purdue colors
  *
A zip folder with the United Sans font, the other two you will have to download from the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite fonts, more instructions below

Logo
This is really the main thing Purdue will continue to hit home with even if they let up on the fonts. The logo is very important to Marking & Media and it's the first thing they will catch and reject. In the folder, I have sent along all acceptable transparent versions of the logo. Please remove the triangle logo, it is no longer acceptable. (I know it looks better, but it's out of date) You can toss this on any project you have. Just make sure there's a "P" size's worth of space around it. The gold "P" logo should only be used on light/white backgrounds. The black "P" logo goes on dark backgrounds.

Fonts
Purdue is really hitting hard on using the correct fonts on printed items. They are rejecting anything without the correct fonts.

Preferred Purdue Fonts:

  *
Acumin Pro
  *   United Sans
  *
Source Serif Pro

^These fonts you will have to download and install onto every computer you plan to do Purdue work on. They do not come standard.

Accepted Alternative Fonts:

  *
Franklin Gothic [Replacement for Acumin Pro]
  *
Impact [Replacement for United Sans]
  *
Georgia [Replacement for Source Serif Pro]

^These fonts are acceptable if you don't want to/don't have the Purdue fonts. They (usually) come with the Microsoft Suite and are on most programs already.

I am sending along a zip file of the United Sans font for you to use. Once you download it and unzip it, double-click it and hit "Install" on the top.

You have to do this for all of them to get the full swatch of this font to use. You will have to close any programs that use fonts (word, PowerPoint, excel, etc) to get it to show. It will show up as "United Sans ...." towards the bottom of the list.

For the other two main fonts (Acumin & Source Serif) you will have to go through and activate them on your creative cloud account provided by Purdue. Here is the link on how to:

Colors
There is a complete list of approved colors to use for presentations/brochures/pamphlets. They can also be found on the website below. The colors on the powerpoint files are already set to the Purdue colors. If you are making a poster, you can paste the image of the colors onto it and use the eyedropper tool to pick the colors.

While this really only affects sending things to get printed for conferences, projects, presentations, etc... now would be a good time to start working on updating your templates and trying to incorporate some of Purdue's branding. Especially the logo. Please stop using the triangle logo.
