Phil,
On Wednesday afternoon, someone in REM witnessed some students spray
painting on the lawn between ARMS and PHYS. They were already gone
before I was able to get out there, so we aren’t sure whose research
group they were from, but they were from a group working in the ARMS
building. They had the right idea to do the spray painting outside
(instead of in a chemical fume hood), but they could have done it
better. Is there any way you could relay the following info to
fabrication labs in the building?
Instead of spray painting in the open air, they need to put up a back
stop for the overspray. A large cardboard box works well. Without the
back stop they run the risk of the paint overspray getting on vehicles
parked around the area. This has been an issue in other areas on campus
and has cost the University thousands of dollars in individual insurance
claims.
The students should also be protecting themselves. PPE they should use
are N-95 respirator (dustmask), safety glasses, and gloves (optional).
Thank you,
Joe Henseler
