Several applications to ESE are not completed. In my initial review, I have identify several that are strong applicants and would compete well for fellowships we have been given. The fellowship selection process of strong applicants relies heavily on faculty interests, open spots in research groups that align with the applicant interest, and if the area they are interested in is well-supported at Purdue. Some of you have already received applications to review if I thought the student aligned well with your area via file locker per my request to Keara. I will be sending several more in like fashion in the next few days. If after you review an application, please let me and Lera know if you have interest or not which will inform our admissions committee. ALSO, although we have an admissions committee, you can serve as one of the reviewers, which helps expedite all of our processes since we like to have 3 reviewers per app. If you are willing to do so, please let Keara know and for whom (can be included in the email you send about your interest or not in the student), and she can add it to your queue in slate. In some cases, we may process an accept for a student who you know you want and are strong without the detailed review process. I do not want to loss strong students to other institutions because we are not responding fast enough. Accepts are separate from funding offers, which can come after. Remember students have until April 15 to decide, but some will let us know early on. We have to keep the strong applicants engaged to ensure they do not accept another offer before getting our funding offer.

ESE Fellowship Allocations
5 Lynns (1 grad school + 3 other)
2 Andrews (2 grad school + 2 other)

Also for some students, I will be able to nominate them for other fellowships we do not control, etc.
