Revised Call for Statements of Interest: Fiscal Year 2020 Research Awards
The Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center<http://necsc.umass.edu/> (NE CASC) is delighted to announce a revision to our call for statements of interest for Fiscal Year 2020 Research Awards.
In light of recent appropriations, we have significantly increased the amount of available funding for these awards:

  * A maximum of $3,000,000 will be awarded for projects focusing on the Midwestern region. Funding for individual projects will not exceed $600,000.
  * $800,000-$1,000,000 will be awarded for projects focusing on the Northeastern region. Funding for individual projects will not exceed $390,0000.

An informational webinar regarding the revised call for Statements of Interest has been scheduled for Friday, January 10, at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. The meeting can be accessed as follows:

Internet: https://umass-amherst.zoom.us/j/715918325
Phone: (646) 876-9923
Meeting ID: 715 918 325

Prospective principal investigators affiliated with an NE CASC consortium institution or the U.S.Geological Survey are invited to submit Statements of Interest. Parties from other organizations (federal, state, Tribal, or other) are eligible to participate and can receive funds via sub-awards from principal investigators.

Fiscal Year 2020 awards will support projects that target one or more issues faced by natural and/or cultural resource managers from federal, state, and/or Tribal government, generate knowledge to address that challenge, and engage resource managers in meaningful ways.
Projects may focus on any of the following:

  * Expansion, engagement, synthesis, or implementation related to recent or current research initiatives to deliver the best available science to resource managers
  * Climate impact science in response to natural or cultural resource management challenge
  * Novel research in the design and evaluation of climate adaptation, including anticipatory, autonomous, and planned adaptation
These emphases align with the NE CASC’s overarching goals, which include:

  * Responding to high priority management challenges
  * Fostering substantive, sustained engagement between scientists and managers
  * Advancing the understanding of the impacts of climate change on fish, wildlife, water, and land
  * Providing science to support sound resource management and adaptation
Statements of interest must be responsive to the NE CASC FY20 Priorities identified by the NE CASC advisory committee and adhere to the proper format and guidelines for statements of interest. Please consult the attachments on the NE CASC website<https://necsc.umass.edu/news/call-statements-interest-fiscal-year-2020-research-awards> (bottom of page) for complete information about FY20 priorities as well as the format/guidelines for statements of interest. A timeline for the award application process and other details are also provided in the NE CASC FY20 Priorities attachment.
Please email Statements of Interest to Olivia LeDee (oledee at usgs.gov<mailto:oledee at usgs.gov>), NE CASC deputy federal director, and Michelle Staudinger (mstaudinger at usgs.gov<mailto:mstaudinger at usgs.gov>), NE CASC science coordinator, by 5:00 pm CST on Friday, January 31, 2020. Email subject lines must indicate whether Statement of Interest focuses on the Midwestern or Northeastern region.
Prospective investigators should contact Olivia LeDee or Michelle Staudinger directly with questions.
