In your one page nomination, please only ask for the amount of support on a semester basis that your student will need to complete their dissertation. We will be able to nominate more than one student for funding if requests are only for one semester (summer, fall, spring) and this will be considered in the selection process. If you actually need a full year, then request it. Even if you are not selected from the initial round of nominations, if there are additional Bilsland Dissertation Fellowships that become available, we will have your nomination in hand for consideration.

The Graduate School has announced the allocation for the Bilsland Dissertation Fellowships for 2019-2020 and Ecological Sciences and Engineering (ESE) is now collecting nominations. Students do not apply directly for the Bilsland Fellowship, but are nominated by their major professor and selected by members of the graduate faculty in ESE and the Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (OIGP). The stipend amount is $20,000 for 12 months and is designed for the student to attain their degree at the conclusion of the fellowship.

If you would like to nominate a student to be considered for the Bilsland, please send the following information to ese at purdue.edu<mailto:ese at purdue.edu> by Tuesday, February 12th:

Please attach a 1 page PDF covering the details below, written by the Major Professor:

*       Description of the student's research achievements;

*       Current Status of the student;

* Comment if the student had other responsibilities as part of their assistantship (e.g., TA/service/other research outside their dissertation)

*       Promise of degree attainment by the student at the conclusion of the fellowship;

*       Detailed description of the student's interdisciplinary nature of their academic pursuit;

* Number of months of funding that the student needs.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thank you,
Deirdre
