Subject: Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant request for research preproposals
Apologies for cross postings. Please forward to interested parties.
The Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant College Program (IISG) issues this call for research preproposals to address critical concerns facing Lake Michigan. Research is to be conducted in the 2018-2019 biennium. PIs from educational or research institutions in Illinois or Indiana are eligible for these funds. Up to $100,000 per year for two years will be available for funding projects. The funds requested must be matched by at least 50% (one nonfederal dollar for every two federal dollars requested).
Proposals should address at least one of the 4 National Sea Grant Program Focus Areas: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems; Resilient Communities and Economies; Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture; Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development. In particular, we seek to fund original research projects within one or more of the following themes:
* Southern Lake Michigan region coastal planning
* Innovative approaches to managing and capitalizing on environmental resources
* Economic value of Lake Michigan coastal areas
PIs are encouraged to explore the IISG research webpages <http://iiseagrant.org/research.php> to determine how research interests fit with program priorities and identify potential extension partners. Anyone who is considering submitting a preproposal is invited to attend an informational webinar <http://iiseagrant.org/funding_core.php> on Dec. 9 at 10:30 am EST (9:30 am CST).
Preproposals must be received by 6:00 pm EST (5:00 pm CST) on January 23, 2017. The full request for preproposals can be found at http://www.iiseagrant.org/research/IISG_2016RFP.pdf.
Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant College Program (IISG), a cooperative enterprise of the University of Illinois and Purdue University, supports research, technology transfer, and outreach and education activities for issues of importance to the southern Lake Michigan region in the two states. IISG is part of the National Sea Grant College Program within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
