I am asking all ESE Faculty to help in reviewing our applicant pool for 2012.
The posted application deadline for entry into ESE is today Dec. 15; however, applications will continue to stream in well after this date. Currently there are only a small number of complete applications (< 10) that have been uploaded and about 3 dozen in the 'Pre-review' folder (these are apps that the student has submitted but letters, scores, and transcripts may not be posted yet). Based on applications in process in AY, we expect more than double this number when all applications are completed and uploaded. For your easy reference are the Application Requirements posted on the ESE website.
I am asking all ESE Faculty to help in reviewing our current applicant pool. All applications as they are completed or nearly complete are posted at our SharePoint Site, (see below to for instructions on using the site). Also below is information on fellowship and fellowship nominations and the questions you will be asked when submitting a review). We want to move quickly to identify the best students that best align with your programs, to meet the needs you may have on current or pending grants, and applicants that can be competitive for both ESE specific and other internal fellowships.
Fellowships
ESE expects to have at least 3 fellowships of our own to decide and distribute (two ESE-Lynn PhDs that are 1+3; and one Andrews or Purdue Doctoral that are 2+2). See details for the nomination process for the ESE fellowships at the end of this email. In addition, there are other fellowship opportunities for which we can nominate students (opportunities usually start rolling in by mid to late January timeframe so we want to be ready). In some cases I can do the nomination, and in other cases such as those that go through specific colleges, you will need to submit the nomination in response to department and college specific deadlines. Some of the DP associated Centers will also have opportunities we will make you aware of as they arise.
Fellowship Nominations
Email me (lslee at purdue.edu<mailto:lslee at purdue.edu>) right away of your interest and then move forward with an official nomination.
A complete nomination includes:
* A letter of nomination from the potential advisor (1 page).
* A full copy of the nominee's Graduate School application.
* A statement indicating how you plan to support the student for two or three additional years (depends on which fellowship), which can include other fellowships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships, or a combination thereof.
Please send your application material electronically to Linda S. Lee (lslee at purdue.ed<mailto:lslee at purdue.ed>)
SharePoint Site: Go to the ESE page (http://www.purdue.edu/ese and click on faculty log in (currently in left panel buttons) or got directly to app site https://sp.itap.purdue.edu/gradschool/ese/default.aspx<https://owa.purdue.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=bf68bb03aacb4709a0548d06bb7ae35d&URL=https%3a%2f%2fsp.itap.purdue.edu%2fgradschool%2fese%2fdefault.aspx>
1. When you Login you must put ONEPURDUE\ and then your log in name (same name and password as for all your other Purdue accounts)
2. In the lower left is right column under "Site Hierarchy" go to the folder "ESE 2012". Soon a Snapshot spreadsheet (with a date) will be posted in in this general ESE 2012 folder for a quick review of applicants, which will include faculty listed in the application and additional faculty we think should review the folder based on potential overlapping interests.
3. Files are in 2 folders: Complete files are in the subfolder 'Faculty review...' and other applications that will soon be complete are in the subfolder 'Preview...'.
To do an Applicant Review, continue with the following steps.
4. Click on the application to review it.
5. Then submit your review by going to "2012 Applicant Review" near the top of the right column. Then click on "Respond to Survey" (on upper bar), which will pull up a simple review sheet with a minimal number of entries and questions (shown below for what you can expect).
