Dear EMBRIOphytes,
Happy New Year, and welcome back. This is a quick reminder that we'll have a guest speaker, Dr. Denise Driscoll (bio below), for our upcoming ABIDES seminar on Monday 3-4pm EST, with the details below (and two very quick self-reflection exercises we will be using during the seminar are attached for you to complete ahead of the seminar).
Additional announcements include several conferences that may be of interest (see below)
Seminar Title: Your Role in Building Teams that are Inclusive and Culturally Responsive
Description: Dr. Driscoll will give an introductory, interactive talk about 1. how one creates a culture of inclusion when working on research- or project-related teams and 2. how to increase one’s cultural intelligence (CQ) and be more culturally responsive when on a diverse team.
Accompanying Activities:
1.
When you think of a team that is inclusive in your workplace, what are some everyday workplace practices, procedures, and/or processes that you believe are responsible for creating a culture of inclusion? Write down a few examples.
2.
Please complete the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Scale - 20 item version (see attached). It has pros and cons, as any scale does, but only takes a few minutes to complete and will help everyone think more complexly about what CQ entails.
*During the session, we will talk about global dexterity and illustrate the concept using the Countries and Cultural Considerations attachment. Please print this document ahead of time if you don't have multiple screens. Thank you!
