Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce two upcoming XPS workshops:

1. Practical Aspects of XPS: From Sample Preparation to Spectra Interpretation

  *   Dates: October 31 to November 2, 2023
  *   Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

2. Introduction to CasaXPS: Essentials of XPS Data Analysis with CasaXPS

  *   Dates: November 7 to 8, 2023
  *   Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

These are two independent workshops, but the material covered in each complements the other. The combined knowledge from both workshops will greatly benefit your research group.  We strongly encourage every research group using Surface Analysis characterization tools or planning to do so to have at least one trained student attend these workshops.

Practical Aspects of XPS Course Description: XPS, or X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, is widely utilized to determine the chemical composition of a surface, encompassing factors such as element concentrations, chemical states, lateral and depth distributions, and more. In the contemporary scientific landscape, XPS has emerged as a standard technique for the characterization of solid surfaces. This course will equip attendees with a comprehensive understanding of what information can be obtained through XPS. We will delve into the quantification of XPS data, discussing topics such as thickness calculation, coverage, atomic percentages, and more.

Introduction to CasaXPS Course Description: XPS, or X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, is widely employed to determine the chemical composition of a surface, including element concentrations, chemical states, lateral and depth distributions, and more. In today's scientific landscape, XPS has evolved into a standard technique for the characterization of solid surfaces. However, XPS data necessitate thorough analysis, and dedicated software is employed for this purpose. Purdue University has a site license for CasaXPS, which allows for comprehensive analysis of XPS data. This course aims to achieve two primary objectives: (1) instruct participants on the essential analysis techniques for raw XPS data and (2) demonstrate how to execute these techniques using CasaXPS. The workshop will delve into both qualitative and quantitative analysis of XPS data using CasaXPS in a comprehensive manner.

Practical Workshop: Please note that this is a hands-on workshop, and attendees are strongly recommended to bring their own Windows laptop. Instructions on how to install CasaXPS will be provided before the workshop commences.
