Hi ECEA Members,

I know this doesn't pertain to all of you, but I wanted to make sure that
the female ECEA members are aware of this unique and awesome opportunity (as
well as all of your friends). Dr. Karen Panetta from Tufts University has a
program that has just been picked up as a reality engineering TV show. They
are currently casting females ages 18-23 for it who are not only stellar
engineers but also stellar outside the classroom. The series has been
designed to break the stereotypes of engineering and make it more hip to
become an engineer. I know I'd try out for it if I weren't too old because
Dr. Panetta is awesome and the producers are well-seasoned reality show
producers!

If you know of anyone who would be interested in trying out for the show,
please forward this to them.

Cathy

Hello.

I am writing to solicit your assistance in passing an engineering reality
show casting announcement to engineering and science students. This is a
time sensitive announcement, as the application deadline is July 5, 2010.

The Nerd Girls, started by Professor Karen Panetta from Tufts University,
has been picked up by the producers of the hit TV show, "The Dog Wisperer,"
to help promote women in engineering and to show how important engineering
is to society. They are looking for well-rounded women engineers and
scientists to cast in the show. I have copied parts of the press releases
below. The official releases are also attached to this email.

As a Purdue Engineering Alum and member of the funding and support source, I
would love to see one of the current Purdue Engineering students be a part
of this show. Please pass this announcement to as many female engineering
and science students as possible.

Thank you,
Cathy

Do you want to use your engineering skills to make a difference? Do you want
to change the way the world views women in engineering? Do you want to be a
part of a major movement to provide young girls with positive role
models,while building an amazing resume?

*T**he Nerd Girls are now casting for the NEW TV SERIES* produced by MPH
Entertainment, best known for their Emmy-nominated hit show “Dog Whisperer
with Cesar Milan.” Dr. Karen Panetta, founder of Nerd Girls, has been
encouraging young women to change their world through science,
technology,engineering and math
, all while embracing their feminine power, and she wants you to join her
team!

Developed from a professor’s curriculum and the web site
Nerdgirls.com<http://nerdgirls.com/>
-- both created by Dr. Karen Panetta, a Professor of Electrical and
Computer Engineering at Tufts University -- the “Nerd Girls” brand concept
builds on Panetta’s original initiative, encouraging women to change their
world through science, technology, engineering and math, all while embracing
their feminine power.

Says MPH partner Jim Milio, “Popular culture has become obsessed with
stereotyping young people. Young women seem especially vulnerable to
narrow-minded labeling by their peers. We believe that empowering young
women to demonstrate that ‘geek is chic’ and ‘brains are beautiful’ offers a
potent and compelling message in today’s media-obsessed society.”

If you think you have what it takes to tell the world, “Hey, I’m a Nerd Girl
, and it’s awesome!” then submit a video. Join us on our mission to show
the beauty of brains. The search is on for talented female engineering and
science students who defy stereotypes and have a multi-faceted life beyond
the books.

*Application Deadline is July 5, 2010.*
Selected girls will become part of the “Nerd Girls” brand that includes a
multimedia campaign to change the image of nerd girls worldwide. The “Nerd
Girls” will get the chance of a lifetime to use their engineering skills to
solve real world problems and to improve both our quality of life and our
environment. They'll help create new pop culture role models who embody the
talent and diversity of nerd girls, and will serve to encourage more girls
and young women to consider engineering and related studies as a career.

The “Nerd Girls” brand has received funding and support from the IEEE
foundation (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the world’s
largest professional organization for the advancement of technology.

*Here’s what some of the Original Nerd Girls have to say about it:*

"Listen, being a Nerd Girl rocks! I love being associated with a group of
smart women who are just as passionate about their nerdy side as they are
about their life outside of engineering. For me, it's all about airplanes
and Nike's new line of running shoes."

- *Danielle – Mechanical Engineer (MSME) & NerdGirls Facebook Fan Page*

"Being a Nerd Girl is all about embracing who you are. I’m so glad to be
part of a group that allows me to be myself – a nerd that loves being a part
of the science world that’s treating serious medical conditions, but also a
girl that lives for getting dressed up for a ladies night on the town.”

*– Cristina, Biomedical Engineer (MSBME) & NerdGirls Facebook Fan Page
writer*

“I love technology, from sexy gadgets like the iPhone to social media crazes
like Twitter, to the solar cells that will change the way the world is
powered. As a Nerd Girl, I can embrace my love for engineering, science and
technology, and still be myself – from my adoration of the art of fashion to
my fascination with Lady Gaga.”
