[Che-student-staff-list] ChE Safety Committee Openings for Graduate Students

Hello Everyone,



Two of the current graduate student members of the ChE safety committee (Melissa Marsing and Dharini Varadharajan) have served for nearly two years on the safety committee and I want to take this opportunity and thank them for all their help and input as committee members; they have been very active and valuable members of our committee. I also want to thank Catherine Vincent for her service and contributions; Catherine represented the GSO on the safety committee for 18 months. We are looking forward to working with the next GSO safety officer once results of GSO elections are announced.



The ChE Safety Committee has now two (2) openings for graduate students. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and safety oriented graduate students to join our active safety committee. An ideal candidate is someone who still has to complete about 3 years of graduate studies and who performs research in a lab. Typically, graduate students serve on the ChE Safety Committee for a period of two years. We would like the new members to join us this summer (July 2024), as trainees, and then with full responsibilities from August 2024.



Some of the Safety Committee members responsibilities are:

  *   attend the safety committee meetings (once a month) and actively participate in discussions and committee activities
  *   report unsafe conditions and unsafe practices/acts
  *   assist in addressing safety issues/concerns
  *   contribute with ideas and suggestions for improvement of safety in our School
  *   follow safety procedures and rules and be an example for others for work safely
  *   help with the safety inspections throughout the year, and with preparations for the ISP Recertification Review with REM
  *   help investigating safety incidents, if/when necessary
  *   share safety information with colleagues, etc.
