[Che-student-staff-list] Marilyn Forney Trailblazer Award and ChE Excellence in Safety Award recipients announced

Dear Purdue ChE Community,

This year the we received numerous nominations for many deserving graduate students for both the Marilyn Forney Trailblazer Award, and the ChE Excellence in Safety Award, thus the selection committees had a very difficult task in selecting the recipients of these awards.

Please join me in congratulating Jessica Torres as the recipient of the 2021 Marilyn Forney Trailblazer Award, and David Dean as the recipient of the 2021 ChE Excellence in Safety Award.

The Marilyn Forney Trailblazer Award was established to recognize an outstanding student whose impact has helped pave the way for women in the field of engineering. The award is based on contribution and participation in the Women in Engineering Program, Women in Chemical Engineering Seminar, and leadership and service efforts within these programs throughout their academic journey. Jessica Torres is a graduate student in Professor Julie Liu's research group. Jessica is passionate about mentoring others, she has been a leader with the Women in Engineering IGED program and served as the graduate student representative for the 2019 Women in Chemical Engineering Seminar. Jessica is truly passionate about outreach and plans to continue her leadership in outreach activities throughout her career.

The ChE Excellence in Safety Award was established to express appreciation and reward the safety conscientious graduate students in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, who contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of a strong safety culture within our School community. David Dean is a graduate student in Professor Jeff Miller's research group and has served as the GSO Safety Officer for the 2020-2021 academic year, providing a bridge between the graduate student body in our School and the ChE Safety Committee. David is passionate about safety and will continue to serve in the same role as GSO Safety Officer for another year.

The presentation of the awards will be at a later date, hopefully during the Graduate Research Symposium in August 2021.

Once again, please join me in congratulating Jessica Torres and David Dean as the recipients of the 2021 Marilyn Forney Trailblazer Award, and the 2021 ChE Excellence in Safety Award, respectively!
