Dear All,
Following up on my prior email, on July 1 Purdue enacted its new changes to the Covid Policies. Our school will be following the changes implemented by the University effective immediately. The main change being no longer requiring masks for vaccinated individuals in non-instructional spaces. These include research spaces, dining venues, the corec, offices, lobbies, libraries, etc.
Keep in mind, that this policy is still allowing certain social distancing policies to be in place along with other Protect Purdue measures when needed. This means attention must go to reading all the signs in a given space.
For unvaccinated individuals, masks are still required in all indoor spaces. Though vaccination is not currently being required by Purdue, if you decide to not get vaccinated, beginning August 23 you will be opted into regular surveillance testing and understand that few campus activities may be available to you. If you decide to get vaccinated in the future, please remember to provide Purdue with that information via the respective link below, so they no longer require the regular surveillance testing for you. Another thing to keep in mind, when needing to eat or drink please continue to abide by the appropriate policy (found here<https://www.purdue.edu/ehps/rem/worker/covid19/eatinganddrinking.html>). Remember that when in appropriate eating spaces masks should only be removed for a brief period of about 15 minutes.
These policy changes are in line with the Protect Purdue Pledge that each and every one of us has agreed to. Violations of that pledge are still subject to disciplinary actions.
You may find the Purdue Covid Policy changes HERE<https://protect.purdue.edu/updates/purdue-adjusts-mask-policy-for-non-instructional-spaces/>. An easy to follow explanation of the mask protocols may be found HERE<https://protect.purdue.edu/required-covid-19-protocols/>.
Again, masks are still required for all in instructional spaces regardless of vaccination status; this likely will not change until more of our Purdue community becomes vaccinated and provides documentation of this to Purdue<https://protect.purdue.edu/vaccine-information/>.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me as I am happy to assist. Thank you all for your time as well as your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Joshua

Subject: Research Space 100% Capacity
Importance: High
Dear All,
On behalf of the School, I would like to relay the University’s decision announced yesterday (see email below) regarding the use of all research spaces back to pre-Covid capacity. This measure will allow all Covid SOP constraints to be rescinded, EXCEPT for the continue use of masks at all times in shared spaces (labs, grad offices, etc.) regardless of vaccination status. With this, research spaces such as grad offices will also be allowed to be opened at 100% occupancy. There will also no longer be a need for any rotating schedules that research groups have implemented for Covid precautions for both labs and grad offices. All research related occupancy signs, along with Covid SOP signs have already been removed from appropriate rooms.
Please remember that along with all this masks are still required for everyone at all times in shared spaces. In the days to come, new guidance will be issued regarding the use of face masks for non-instructional spaces, once that is available I shall follow up with an update.
I would like to express appreciation to everyone for their amazing cooperation throughout this pandemic that allowed us to be able to get to this point and that much more closer to a sense of normalcy. We shall keep the momentum going to the fall semester and beyond.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you all for your time.
Sincerely,
Joshua

Dear Research Community,
We are pleased to announce that effective immediately, research spaces can return to pre-COVID-19 operations, with the exception of the continued use of face masks. This change will enable researchers to return to 100% capacity in their research spaces. As a result, any layout, scheduling, or other changes implemented to accommodate COVID-19 safety can be rescinded and these components of Research Space SOPs will be unnecessary. In conjunction with this, IRB approval will no longer require an approved Research Space SOP. However, we ask that you continue to keep your personnel lists updated through the SOP portal<https://maillinks.purdue.edu/t/41547280/1558920867/87051312/0/124711/?x=9369533c> to facilitate continued tracking of any research COVID-19 cases, particularly as we implement this relaxation of protocols.
This decision has been made with input from the Protect Purdue Leadership Team and the Medical Advisory Team and affects all researchers, regardless of vaccination status. Around this time last year, we were beginning to re-open research spaces and allow researchers back into their labs under COVID-19 restrictions. Because of your diligence in following the protocols developed in your SOPs, we are thrilled that we are in the position to re-open operations. Thank you for your flexibility, hard work, and dedication during this time. Should you have any questions, please contact Michelle Dennis at mlong1 at purdue.edu<mailto:mlong1 at purdue.edu>.
Thanks,
Theresa Mayer
