Hello Everyone,

I am pleased to let you know that following the Integrated Safety Plan (ISP) recertification meeting with REM representatives on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, followed by safety inspection of selected ChE labs and corrections of identified deficiencies, our School was ISP recertified for another year. The official recertification document was signed on August 14, 2019, and made available to me yesterday.

One of the deficiencies identified during lab inspections was "open hazardous solid waste container" and "open contaminated sharps container". As a reminder, ALL hazardous waste containers, including solid waste and contaminated sharps, have to be CLOSED at all times, apart from when adding waste to the container.
For solid hazardous waste, including contaminates sharps, you can determine if the container is closed properly by answering this simple question: "If the container is accidentally knocked over, will the waste/sharps remain contained?" If the answer to this question is NO, then you need to seal the container in a different way, so that the answer to the question will be YES.

Thank you for your efforts in making this possible and for your sustained commitment to safety!

Sincerely,
Gabriela
on behalf of ChE Safety Committee
