Hello Everyone,



As we progress into the spring semester I wanted to let everyone know about the outreach activities GSO is planning for this spring. If you are interested in any of the below events please feel free to contact me directly or simply add your name to the spreadsheets attached.



Education:



Murdock After School Science Club-As we have done for many years the GSO coordinates an after school science club<http://purdueche.freeflowdp.com/purdueche/9187716147128722/MobilePagedReplica.action?pm=2&folio=16#pg16> at Murdock Elementary School on Monday afternoons 3-4 times a month. If you would like to get the opportunity to do hands on experiments with 3rd graders in topics such as DNA, magnets, and chemical reactions please add your name to the spreadsheet <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14NmhKGIhzHnKoysTGrb2bpGheMfxvB_j5tg-L8MvW0w/edit?usp=sharing> or contact me with any questions.



Solar Rollers Day-This spring we will host a day for junior high students to come learn about solar energy by building and racing solar powered model cars. All day on Friday April 13th GSO will host close to 60 students from a local junior high school for the event, so many volunteers are needed! We will provide breakfast lunch and t-shirts to all volunteers. Please contact myself for more information or look out for additional emails in February for sign up!



Environment:



Highway Clean Up- The GSO has sponsored a section of highway 231 to clean of trash 2-3 times annual. We will be hosting the first cleaning of 2018 this spring with breakfast provided to all volunteers. If you are interested please add your name to the spreadsheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MXEy62QXEpLbw4EmBJ8HqD3heAtUkrpLSFLZ--lDFDc/edit?usp=sharing> and fill out your availability for possible dates.



Arbor Day Tree Planting- In collaboration with Tree Lafayette<http://www.treelafayette.org/> the GSO helps plant trees in local greenways to celebrate Arbor Day. This year we will plant young trees at new softball fields in Lafayette on Saturday April 28th and coffee will be provided to all volunteers. Food Insecurity:



Food Bank Trips- The GSO takes volunteers monthly to the Food Finders Food Bank<https://www.food-finders.org/> where we help sort and package food for local food banks in the area. If you are interested please add your name to the sheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YornfsGZF-d87cWPNSW9BOB9rNlhxRDesd1ENqp6ymg/edit?usp=sharing>. Our next trip is next Thursday February 15th 3-5pm.
