Hello everyone,

I wanted to remind you that today, March 21, the National Weather Service, in conjunction with several Indiana state agencies, will conduct a statewide test of communication systems at approximately 10:15 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. If there is any chance of severe weather anywhere in Indiana today, the tests will be postponed to tomorrow, Wednesday (March 22).

As part of Indiana's Severe Weather Preparedness Week, Purdue's Emergency Preparedness and Planning Office will coordinate a voluntary campus-wide tornado drill during the state's morning drill only. Multiple warning systems will be activated at 10:15 a.m. The systems that will be activated include the All Hazard Outdoor Warning Sirens (intended to warn those outdoors only), text message, Purdue's @purdueemegency Twitter, desktop popup alert, alert beacon activation, some digital signs and the Boiler TV emergency alerting system layers of the Purdue Alert notification system.
The All Hazard Outdoor Warning Sirens will sound again at 7:35 p.m. as part of the state's drill, but the other Purdue Alert warning notification layers will not be activated.

Although our School will not practice the shelter-in-place procedures today, I wanted to remind you of our shelter-in-place procedures in case of a weather related emergency:

- Calmly move to the basement of either the new or the old wing of the building.

- Use one of the staircases: in the FRNY atrium, adjacent to the exit that faces Physics, adjacent to the exit facing Civil Engineering or adjacent to the exit facing the Engineering Mall.

- Do not use the elevators.

- Take your personal belongings with you, if possible.

- Assist those who need help, if possible.

- Stay in the shelter location until instructed by emergency personnel that it is safe to leave.
Please follow the signs (see below) posted in the building to find the shortest way to the shelter-in-place location.

No action is required today when the Purdue's warning systems will be activated at approximately 10:15 am, but please take a few minutes to review the above shelter-in-place procedures.

Thank you,
Gabriela
On behalf of the ChE Safety Committee
