Dear Colleagues,

I am very sorry to inform that Bob Greenkorn passed away last night.

Bob served our School and Purdue in many distinguished ways - he joined the School in 1965 and was School Head during 1967-73.  During this period, he led the transformation of our School to a more fundamental research oriented department.  Among his subsequent appointments at Purdue were the following: Assistant Dean of Engineering for Research (1972-76), Associate Dean of Engineering (1976-80), Vice President and Associate Provost (1980-86), Vice President for Research (1986-94), Dean of the Graduate School (1993-94), Director of the Technical Assistance Program, TAP (1996-2000) and Vice President for Programs for the Purdue Research Foundation (1980-2000).  He advised or co-advised 27 PhD students, co-authored nearly 100 journal articles, and co-authored several influential textbooks and monographs, including Transfer Operations with D.P. Kessler (1972), Thermodynamics of Fluids with K.C. Chao (1975) and Flow Phenomena in Porous Media (1983).

Bob became the R. Games Slayter Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering in 1995, retired in 2001, but remained active in research.  He published several journal articles in recent years on the frequency and effects of the sun spot cycle.

Details about the visitation and services will be available later.  Our thoughts are with Bob's wife Rosemary and his family - may Bob rest in peace.
