While people in the northeast U.S. might disagree, the period between December 2014 and February 2015 is the warmest winter on record worldwide, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Climatic Data Center. The average global temperature for that time period was 1.42 degrees Fahrenheit, or 0.79 degrees Celsius, above the 53.8 degrees Fahrenheit, or 12.1 degrees Celsius, average in the 20th century.
